Marks containing foreign characters
  • A mark made up only of non-Roman characters — Chinese, Jawi, Japanese, Korean, Tamil or Arabic — should be filed as Logo (Device) Only. MyIPO treats the characters as a device rather than as a word.
  • A mark that combines non-Roman characters with Roman letters or numerals should be filed as Combined (Word + Logo).
  • In both cases MyIPO requires a certified translation and transliteration of the non-Roman elements before the application can proceed.

Upload the mark exactly as it is to be registered (PNG, JPG, SVG or WebP, max 10 MB). This includes marks written in Chinese, Jawi, Japanese, Korean, Tamil or Arabic characters. The file is submitted together with this form — nothing needs to be emailed separately.
For example Chinese (Simplified), Chinese (Traditional), Jawi, Japanese, Korean, Tamil or Arabic.
How the characters are pronounced, written in Roman letters — for example “利益” transliterates as “li yi”.
What the characters mean in English. If they are an invented word with no meaning, say so.
Certified translation requirement
  • MyIPO requires the translation and transliteration to be certified — by a sworn or otherwise qualified translator, or by the embassy or consulate of the relevant country. What you type above is used to prepare the application; it is not itself the certification.
  • If you already hold a certified translation, attach it under Supporting Documents below.
  • If you do not, we arrange certification for you. This is the RM150 translation fee, charged per mark.
